Playing around with audition for the sound lab helped me decide which direction I wanted to go for my 433 project. The effects distortion and FFT filter quickly reminded me of sounds that would be used in horror movies or thrillers. I want my version of 433 to cause eeriness and uncomfortableness. I started thinking of the movies and soundtracks that would be the inspiration for this. Although I am a fan of all horror movies, my favorite one is more on the unconventional side. It’s the movie Coraline. Watching this at 9 years old, I think this was the only movie that every gave me nightmares and kept me up at night. It wasn’t your typical jump scare, blood, gory, ghost horror movie. What made it scary, at least for me, was the fact that it was disturbing, weird, and got worse the more you thought about it. From the plot to the character, and even the unique way of animation, everything about this movie is special. I think the direction I am going to go with this is Coraline’s regular world, which is mundane, boring, regular. Separate from the thrill, emotion, and fear of “The Other World”, the regular world is eerie and suspenseful in its own way. You do not know what about it makes you itch and unsettled but it makes you feel all that and more.
