Brainstorm Blog #4

For this project, I am going in the direction of taking a serious topic and making it humorous. I believe that if used correctly, using humor to discuss serious topic can be successful in its intention to educate people. It can also be used as a coping mechanism for those who are using humor to discuss something much deeper. As an individual who has been travelling her who entire life, I don’t think I have received the same experience with people from the United States compared to other countries around the world. My first time visiting the United States was as a 10th grader for a summer program. During the process of getting to know people I was asked the most bizarre questions. Some people asked me if I lived in a mud house and others asked if I went to school on a camel. As funny as I found these questions it really uncovers the more serious topic of ignorance that can lead people to being offensive. So, for my project I decided to play on that: “Stereotypes about the Arabs”. I will be using conversations I’ve had and the Western world’s interpretation of Arabs to create my Webventure. I am going to lean into two extreme sides of Arab stereotypes which are; we live in the dessert or in mansions. I also want to be personal with some of the examples that I give like western movies or media that really stuck with me growing up as odd, icky, or eye opening.
